Field visits for the creation of mental health clubs in Maroua

clubs santé mentale butterfly cameroon

In the framework of the creation of Butterfly Cameroon mental health clubs, a team from Butterfly Cameroon led by the Regional Coordinator for the Far North, made a field visit to the Bilingual Public High School of Maroua, Domayo to make a plea to the headmaster. He was open to this proposal and agreed to this outreach approach that will allow us to create, in collaboration with the educational community, an environment more conducive to better mental health of students.

The creation of the Butterfly Cameroon mental health clubs is the product of an activity on suicide prevention conducted with high school students in Maroua in 2022. At the end of this activity, we counted a number of students who were depressed, had attempted suicide, or had already had suicidal thoughts.

It is our hope that the establishment of these clubs will help to raise awareness and engage students and the educational community on these issues. This is an opportunity for our dedicated team of psychologists to provide relevant support, in order to limit the dramatic outcomes caused by bullying, failure, school violence, as well as any other factor that may affect the mental health of young people.
