As part of the launch of the pilot phase of its project on the creation of mental health clubs in schools, Butterfly Cameroon has gathered students and teachers from Domayo High School and SABIL Islamic Complex to train its Mental Health Ambassadors in these schools.
The main objective of the mental health clubs will be to tackle the causes and negative consequences of school failure and violence.
As such, the training organized by the association from 10 to 11 May 2023, at the SABIL Islamic Complex in Maroua, allows the Butterfly Cameroon Mental Health Ambassadors and their teachers to be trained on various mental health issues.
During the first day of training which took place yesterday, 10 May 2023, several activities on the agenda marked the meeting.
After the welcome speech by the Far North Regional Coordinator, Nadege Kenmegne, the participants introduced themselves and the objectives of the Butterfly Cameroon Association were presented. The participants also expressed their expectations at the end of the training. Then, presentations on specific topics were made.
UNIPSY gave an introduction to mental health in order to enable the audience to understand psychological disorders and to fight against stigmatization. It was also important to clarify that psychological disorders should not be equated solely with insanity as is often the case in communities.
Dr. Pierre Wambo, for his part, focused on common mental disorders and their impact, insisting on the presentation of strategies for identifying and managing the signs and symptoms of these common disorders, among which we have depression, anxiety, etc.
The last presentation of the day was made by OPSYCOURS on the theme “Prevention and treatment of psychological disorders: From awareness to action”.
The first day ended with an evaluation of the training and the administration of questionnaires to all participants. Finally, several entertaining activities were conducted during the day to further galvanize the audience and build trust between students and teachers.
