16 days of activism against gender-based violence: an aperitif-debate on the theme “Domestic violence, understanding it to better combat it”.
On 1 December 2023, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and UNFPA organized an aperitif-debate as a prelude to the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. The theme was: “Domestic violence, understanding it to better combat it”.
Several CSOs, including Butterfly Cameroon, represented by volunteer Antoine Mbourtekaï, took part in the event, which was marked by interventions, activities and exchanges on the theme.
The causes, manifestations and types of domestic violence were discussed at the start of the event, and UNFPA then recalled the international and national legal texts and instruments that comdan and combat domestic violence.
In addition to the CSO participants, the event was attended by two Misses who spoke on the theme. These were Miss Far North and Miss Tourism, both active in the fight against GBV.
A play was presented by young people to raise public awareness of the evening’s theme.
Finally, UNFPA closed the event with strong recommendations to put an end to GBV:
– popularize national legal instruments to combat violence against women and girls;
– popularize the mapping of care services for victims of violence;
– report cases of GBV;
– raise awareness.
Together, let’s act for a world without violence.
