Butterfly Cameroon’s activity at the Doualare Primary School, Maroua, 4 March 2022

On Friday, 04 March 2022, the Butterfly Cameroon’s team conducted an activity at the Doualaré Group 1 Primary School in Maroua, Cameroon. The said team was made of Georges Bonabé, Secretary General of Butterfly Cameroon and Ms Aïssatou, Member of GAHAO, a partner association of Butterfly Cameroon. In all, there were 89 pupils of Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6.

The activity consisted in screening two documentaries on climate change and biodiversity. After the screenings, discussed with the pupils ensued on the issue of climate change.

The pupils were actively participative. One female pupil of Year 5 things, in her own terms, that climate change “is the weather in a region”. Another pupil defined the phenomenon as “the variation in the weather”.

The discussions then focused on the causes of climate change such as air pollution with industrial waste, water pollution with pollutants, the weakening of soils with chemical products and deforestation.

After identifying the causes of climate change, the pupils gave some solutions to combat the phenomenon, including using public transport and planting trees.

Ultimately, the pupils found the documentaries that were screened to be interesting as they learned a lot like the components of the biodiversity.
